Holidays
During busy times, such as Thanksgiving or Christmas, you may want to change how bookings work. Petsoft lets you mark specific dates as holidays. You can control check-in and check-out availability for those dates. You can also set a minimum stay length around them.
To begin, go to Organization > Settings, then open the Holidays section.
Your holidays, listed by date. Use the date filter to move to a later date. Click the pencil icon to edit a holiday. Click the trash icon to delete a holiday.
Holidays apply to the whole organization. Every facility uses the same holiday list. This setting is not for one facility only.
Add holidays at least nine months ahead of time to allow for correct boarding deposit calculations and invoice totals. If you add a holiday late, you can not fix deposits already collected for that date.
Add a holiday
- Click the green + (Create a new Holiday).
- Select the Date.
- Enter a Description, such as "Thanksgiving" or "Labor Day".
- Set Boarding Check-Ins and Boarding Check-Outs, described below.
- Optional: set the Minimum number of nights (0 to 99).
- Click Save.
Each holiday is for a single date. To restrict a group of days, such as a holiday weekend, add each date as a separate holiday.
Restricting check-ins and check-outs
Turning off Boarding Check-Ins stops reservations from starting on that date. Turning off Boarding Check-Outs stops reservations from ending on that date. This is useful when you do not have enough staff on the holiday. Then you can have customers arrive or leave a day earlier or later.
These settings restrict pet parents only, and boarding reservations only. Petsoft explains this: "Allow Pet Parents to check in boarding reservations on this date, office staff will still be able to book and check in reservations if disabled."
Your staff can always complete the booking for a customer who calls. Daycare is not affected by these settings. The Daycare Availability page controls daycare on holidays.
In the list, these show as the Allow Check-Ins and Allow Check-Outs columns.
Minimum nights
If you set a minimum-nights value, any reservation that includes that date must last at least that many nights. This discourages guests from booking only one night on your busiest dates.
Holidays and deposits
Marking a date as a holiday does two things. It also tells Petsoft which dates count as holidays for deposits. Reservations that include a holiday use your Holiday deposit policy instead of the Standard deposit policy. This is another reason to add holidays early.
See Deposit Policies to set up those rules.
Some services can have an extra charge, called a surcharge, on holiday dates.
