Medications & Feeding
Pets must receive the correct medication and food. In Petsoft, you record a pet's feeding instructions on its profile. You record medication schedules on a reservation.
Adding Feeding Instructions
The system stores feeding instructions on the pet's record, not on a reservation. Enter the instructions one time. They will then appear, read-only, on every reservation for that pet.
- Go to the customer's page.
- Find the pet and click Edit.
- Fill in the Feeding Instructions and Dietary Requirements fields with the pet's food requirements. For example, enter "1 cup dry kibble AM/PM".
- Click Save Changes.
The reservation edit page displays these feeding instructions when they exist. You cannot enter or change them on this page. Go to the pet's profile to update them.
Adding Medications to a Reservation
Staff can add medication instructions when they create a new reservation. Staff can also add instructions later, if the customer brings medication at drop-off.
- Go to Reservations.
- Find the upcoming or active reservation and click Edit.
- Scroll to the Medications section to record medications.
- Click Add Medication.
- Enter the medication name. Add one or more delivery instructions as free text, with a date and time for each. For example, enter "Insulin, 2 units, twice daily with food" as one delivery. There is no separate field for dosage or frequency. Write the dosage and frequency together in the free-text instructions for each delivery.
- Each delivery row has three actions. Mark Delivered marks that one delivery as given. Edit opens the whole medication, including all of its deliveries, for editing. Delete removes the whole medication and all of its deliveries, not only the one row.
- Click Save Changes.
Daily Care Reports
After you add instructions to the reservation, the instructions appear automatically in your daily reports.
- Kennel Cards: When you print a Kennel Card for the run, it shows the feeding and medication instructions at the top.
- Medications Report: Every morning, run the Daily Medications Report from the Reports dashboard. This creates a checklist of every pet that needs medication that day.
Always check the Daily Medications Report against the physical medication that the owner brings at drop-off. This step confirms that the report is correct.
