Trial Days & Evaluations

Many facilities require a temperament test or trial day before accepting a new pet for boarding or group daycare. Petsoft includes a workflow to schedule, evaluate, and approve pets during their first visit.

Scheduling a Trial Day

Pet parents can request a trial day through the portal, or staff can manually schedule it.

  1. Go to Reservations > New Reservation.
  2. Select the customer and pet.
  3. Choose Trial Day (or your facility's equivalent service name) as the service type.
  4. Pick the date and complete the booking.

Trial days appear on the occupancy board with a distinct label, alerting staff that the pet requires an evaluation.

Recording the Evaluation

During or after the trial day, staff document the pet's behavior.

  1. Navigate to the Customer Profile or click the pet's name on the Occupancy Board.
  2. Open the Pet Profile.
  3. Locate the Behavior & Notes section.
  4. Record details about how the pet interacted with staff and other animals.
  5. Update the pet's Status. Options typically include:
    • Approved: The pet passed the evaluation and can book regular services.
    • Requires Follow-up: The pet needs another trial day or a different service type (e.g., solo play only).
    • Denied: The pet is not a good fit for the facility.

Restricting Bookings

You can configure Petsoft to prevent pet parents from booking standard boarding or daycare reservations until their pet has an "Approved" status.

To enable this restriction:

  1. Go to Organization > Services & Rates.
  2. Select a service (e.g., "Group Daycare").
  3. Check the box for Requires Approved Temperament Test.
  4. Click Save.

Pet parents attempting to book this service without an approved pet will be prompted to book a Trial Day instead.
