Trial Service and Pet Status

Many facilities want to evaluate a new pet before they accept it for regular boarding or group daycare. Petsoft supports this through Trial Service. Trial Service is a checkbox in the services tab. It marks a service as usable for trial reservations. Petsoft combines this with a pet status workflow.

Booking a Trial

Pet parents can request a trial through the portal, or staff can manually schedule it. If the pet on a reservation has Pending Trial status, Petsoft marks the reservation as a trial reservation.

Recording the Evaluation

During or after the trial, staff record how the pet behaved.

  1. Go to the Customer Profile, or find the pet from the reservation.
  2. Open the Pet Profile.
  3. Use the free-text note field to describe how the pet behaved with staff and other animals.
  4. Check out the reservation. Then approve or deny the trial. This action updates the pet's Status:
    • If you approve, Petsoft sets the pet's status to Active.
    • If you deny, Petsoft sets the pet's status to Ineligible and bans the pet from future bookings. Staff must inform the pet parent; Petsoft does not send this notice automatically.

The full set of pet statuses in Petsoft is: Pending Review, Pending Trial, Ineligible, Active, and Inactive.

The Trial Service Flag

The Trial Service checkbox on a service marks that service as valid for trial reservations. It does not block a pet from booking other, non-trial services. To mark a service as available for trials:

  1. Go to your service configuration under Facilities > Services.
  2. Select the service. For example, select Group Daycare.
  3. Check the box for Trial Service.
  4. Click Save.
